New Year’s Resolutions – 2010
Moving on to 2010. As you plan your objectives for the year, you may feel compelled to pledge some common resolutions. Here are the top two resolutions that people choose:
- Lose Weight / Get in Shape
- Break Negative Habits (smoking, swearing, etc.)
One of the reason that these are so popular is that many people choose them year after year! Why is it so hard to stick with these goals? Two reasons come to mind.
Firstly, these goals require effort over a long period of time. It is not simply about spending an intensive weekend, but rather about establishing new patterns in life.
Secondly, new patterns have an impact on others around us. If you change your eating habits, it will likely impact your partner, family, and co-workers in some way. If you start spending time at the gym, you will have less time for other activities. If you decide to quit smoking, you’ll lose contact with your buddies in the smoking area.
How might you get around this? One method is to find an accomplice to help you reach your goal. A partner, friend, co-worker, or even an internet pal can help you to accommodate the change in your life.
Share your goal with your friend, and also share the reasons why that goal is important to you. A true friend will care about those reasons, and is very likely to ask you how you’re progressing in your change. That might just be enough to get you to stick with it this year!
Tomorrow we’ll announce a special offer to make it even easier.
